On November 7–8, the third joint workshop was held at UVSQ in Guyancourt, focusing on ethics in research with forced migrants. The event featured the participation of Professor Nando Sigona, Chair of International Migration and Forced Displacement and Director of IriS at Birmingham University. He discussed the ethics and politics of research, highlighting some methodological implications based on various projects he has led or been involved in.
Professor Ilse Van Liempt, Chair in Urban Geography and Associate Professor in the Human Geography Department at Utrecht University, addressed specific ethical challenges encountered in her research. These included the limits of oral consent, questions of anonymity versus participants’ desires for recognition, and the complexities of defining what data researchers truly need (or do not need) for their work—all while striving to go beyond the principle of « do no harm. »
