On June 10th 2026, GRABS PhD candidate Jessi presented preliminary findings from her research trip to Toronto as part of her visiting fellowship at the Global Migration Institute (GMI). The panel offered an opportunity to introduce the GRABS project and its participatory methodologies as well as share early insights into the experiences of young people in forced migration in Toronto.

The presentation drew on findings from a storytelling workshop held in Toronto in collaboration with our partner S4 Collective, in which young people discussed and wrote stories around their experience of Growing Up Across Borders and transitioning to adulthood while navigating belonging in a new country. Key themes emerging include temporal displacement and affective burdens explored through the lens of the project’s participatory approach.

We are grateful to the Global Migration Institute for their support throughout the fellowship and for the valuable insights contributed to both Jessi’s doctoral research and GRABS methodologies.
