For this comic, I chose to tell the story of my father’s immigration journey and the sacrifices he made for our family. Before coming to Canada, my dad worked as a pharmacist in Palestine for over 20 years. Although he had a successful career and years of experience, continuing in the same profession in Canada would have required a lengthy and expensive licensing process. As a family of four adjusting to a new country, one of my parents needed to work right away to help support us financially. My father made the decision to put his own career goals on hold and enter the workforce instead, while my mother completed her master’s degree. In the comic, I focused on his experience working as an Uber driver, as it represents both the challenges many immigrants face and the sacrifices they make to create better opportunities for their families. Through this story, I wanted to highlight the realities of starting over in a new country and the resilience that often goes unseen behind immigrant success stories.
